If the abbreviation UAE does not evoke any associations other than the brooding “rich Muslim country where there is oil and deserts”, then this article is for you. Contrary to popular belief, there is something to see in the Emirates and it is more than safe.

To begin with, there are several rules for entering the UAE in 2021: you need a printed negative test for COVID-19 for a period of no more than 96 hours, and on the spot the Russians will have to take another one for free. It is advisable to install the PH Screening application on the phone – it is in it that the result of the local test will be displayed. Be sure to check if you have medical insurance: without it, you will not be allowed on board the plane. Special requirements are spelled out for entering Abu Dhabi: you will need a negative test for a period of no more than 48 hours, even if you have traveled to other emirates before, later you will be asked for two more tests – on the 4th and 8th day of stay.

Russian citizens do not need to obtain a visa to the UAE in advance when traveling for up to 30 days; at the airport control they will put it in their passport free of charge. The stay can be extended by 30 days.

The easiest way to get to the UAE is with a transfer in Istanbul: this option does not require an additional visa and will save money about three times, and you will receive a bonus walk through ancient Constantinople… Judge for yourself: in February 2021, direct flights cost about 70-80 thousand rubles, and flights with a transfer in Istanbul will cost only 20-30 thousand.

When you get to the UAE, remember: it is safe here, but you must comply with some requirements. The police take fines very seriously, and if you want to save money on paying them, remember a few simple principles based on respect for Muslim culture. Rule one – refrain from alcohol in public places. Rule two – no manifestations of love in public, we do not even recommend holding a loved one by the hand … and, of course, they are extremely intolerant of LGBT people here. Rule three – do not touch or photograph local residents. If you are a female, look for modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for relaxation, and do not wear a swimsuit outside the beach. You can be against such demands as much as you like, but if you want to relax in peace – agree with local traditions.

Why endure all of the above requirements, and where are the most interesting vacation spots in the Emirates? To answer this question, you need to understand how the UAE works. An emirate is a small “state within a state”, with its own ruler and sometimes – with its own laws. There are only seven of them, the main one is Abu Dhabi. The most popular for relaxing on the beaches are Dubai and Fujairah.

We understand what activities and beautiful places await you in different emirates:

1) Abu Dhabi

The capital emirate, in which dreams of the world of the future come true: there are a myriad of skyscrapers, so walking around the city is as mind-blowing as it is in Dubai. Feature of Abu Dhabi – Ferrari Park. Ever dreamed of seeing these perfect red cars? Welcome to the artificial Yas Island, where you will see one of the largest themed entertainment pavilions. Inside, you can ride the rides, look at all the legendary cars built since 1947, visit the racing stimulants and experience the luxury of the Emirates.

You can join the Muslim culture in the Sheikh Zayed Mosque – outwardly it is somewhat similar to the Taj Mahal, but not the real one, but the one from beautiful photographs. The area of the mosque exceeds 5 football fields, and the interior decoration was precisely created under the guidance of genies: the walls are inlaid with gems and gold, the floor is covered with carpets, and the chandeliers reach 10 meters in diameter.

Abu Dhabi also includes Sir Bani Yas – an island in the Persian Gulf, on which the Arab Wildlife Park was organized a couple of years ago. Previously, there were only salt domes, but now Asian cheetahs, gazelles and Arabian antelopes roam the island – so feel free to go on a safari.
Between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is the city of Al Ain with huge shopping centers, the largest zoo in the Middle East and an ancient fort.

2) Dubai

This is the most loyal Emirate to tourists in terms of compliance with the rules. Shopaholics come here for the best prices: this is a duty-free zone. The most popular attraction is the Burj Khalifa needle skyscraper, which is 828 meters high. Other skyscrapers are also surprising: a sail hotel, kilometers of glass and concrete, ziplines between skyscrapers … all this excites, especially for those who are terribly afraid of heights. Another feature of Dubai: a bulk island in the form of a palm tree – Jumeirah. You should, of course, admire them from a height, so do not refuse helicopter tours over the city. Spend the evening at the large “musical fountain”: its jets create amazing figures and are illuminated by more than 5 thousand sources.

Behind the world of glass and big money is the Dubai of the past – in the Al-Bastakiya quarter, there are sights of a different kind: the labyrinths of old 19th century houses without air conditioning, but with wind towers, a coffee museum and even the XVA Gallery of contemporary art. The area for those who want to rightfully say: “I have seen atypical Emirates.”

I want to visit the UAE as soon as possible!

3) Sharjah

Unlike neighboring slightly pompous Dubai, Sharjah adheres to a smaller scale and stricter rules. The best things to see here are the Koran Monument next to the amazingly beautiful Pink Mosque at sunset and the Museum of Islamic Culture, which is worth a visit to learn the complex history of the adherents of Islam and all the beauty of their art.

4) Fujairah

Unlike measured Sharjah, Fujairah is young and passionate. People come here on fitness tours, enjoy snorkeling in the Indian Ocean, practice yoga and catch the sun. If you want to see the oldest mosque in the UAE, built without unnecessary luxury, visit the small Al-Bidiya mosque in a village near Fujairah.

I am planning to go to the Emirates in March!

5) Ras al-Khaimah

On the border with Fujairah is the small village of Masafi, which has gained immense popularity for its thermal springs – and this is almost the only widely known place in this emirate. In general, the entire region is more focused on industry than on tourism development, but camel races take place here, and in the abandoned fishing village of Al Jazeera Al Gamra, sand is endlessly rustling through the streets in the absence of pearl merchants. If you are a trekking fan, head to the Hajar Mountains, which are considered the youngest on Earth.

6) Umm al-Quwain

Come here to the chic Dreamland water park – there are slides for everyone: for young children, extreme lovers and just lovers of water entertainment. In general, this emirate, like Ras al Khaimah, is more suitable for a relaxing beach holiday. Whether you need such leisure in one of the richest countries in the world is another question.
Still needed: going to the UAE in April!

7) Ajman

For dessert, the smallest emirate with a small museum in a historic fort of the 18th century was saved. This is an archaeological and ethnographic museum that houses the traditional wells, irrigation systems and wooden dhow boats that were once ubiquitous in this emirate.

Bonus! The Rub al-Khali Desert, a small part of which is located in the south of the UAE, is another must visit of the Emirates. It is best to recognize her on a jeep safari through the dunes. Bedouin hospitality and a night under the stars listening to the breath of the sands are included.

We recommend to go to author tours in the UAE in the coming months to get to know the country at a comfortable temperature for travel – about +20 ° C – and in the company of an experienced travel expert.
